I have always been interested in fairytales and decided very early on that I wanted to cover the topic for my dissertation.
After a slightly shaky start where I detailed in my plan a monsterous amount of work including all fairytales known to man criticised under Christopher Bookers excellent The Seven Basic Plots and Brian Boyd’s equally inspired On the Origin of Stories.
Unfortunately this was rather too much for an eight thousand word essay as my supervisor kindly pointed out. Instead I chose one of the points that I had detailed in my essay and that was a comparison between Perrault’s Cendrillion and the Brothers Grimm’s Aschenputtel.
I have fleshed out the essay in part but as always still want to do a little bit more reading to make it really good. I will detail here, in this blog, my musings, findings, pictures and eventually the finished piece.
I hope you find it interesting and maybe you will even put me straight if my posts are at all innacurate…
Many thanks for stopping by,
Diana
